The 171-mile Day 2 bike leg of the Ultraman World Championship left Christian Isakson and Scott McDermott injured in crashes and out of the race. A wind gust pushed women’s leader Staci Studer into a guard rail but she emerged uninjured and managed to finish with the lead. And a tailwind helped most riders in the climb up and over the Kohala range.

Tony Marsal of Barcelona Spain rode 8:35:18 for the 171-mile Day 2 bike leg. He finished 12th overall for the 3-day event.

Miro Kregar of Slovenia swallowed sea water during the Day 1 swim and fell back to 12th. But he advanced to 7th with a 3rd-best 7:58:41 bike split on Day 2.

Michael Coughlin shattered the race record with a 7:10:06 clocking for the 171-mile Day 2 bike leg. He finished the day with a 42-minute lead.

Beth Brewster of Kingston, Washington rode 10:28:30 on Day 2 and finished the event as 3rd woman and 26th overall.

Katherine Calder-Becker of Montreal, Canada rode 10:25:17 for Day 2 and finished 21st overall for the 3 days.

Kevin Willis of Canada rode 8:39:57 on Day 2 and finished 8th overall at the finish of the 3-day event.

David Kalinowski of Australia rode a creditable 7:31:23 split on the Day 2 bike leg. But he still lost 21 minutes to Michael Coughlin’s record-setting effort.
