IM Kona 2015 - day 1 images

Our first day on the ground at the 2015 Ironman World Championships in Kona is now behind us and here is an image gallery of people, gear and bikes we noticed on this warm and very windy day.

Many folks were sporting the Zoot Kona 2015 themed kits today.

Jimmy Riccitello before his morning swim. He looks fit and ready to race.

Marino Vanhoenacker is flying under the radar here, and he is very relaxed and calm. The competitors ought to be worried.

Not everyone was swimming at Dig Me Beach. Spectating on the sea wall is very entertaining.

Belgium is very well represented here.

Chocolate milk for the man in the Minion helmet. The eyes on the helmet allow him to really ride head down.

Giant showed a series of new triathlon bikes and they will be available in November, including this sub $4,950 Trinity Advanced Pro 1 model with Shimano Ultegra Di2 components.

The Trinity Advanced is the most basic model at $2,250.

Tony DeBoom of Endurance Conspiracy in a silly mood.

Many eyes will be on the talented young Canadian Lionel Sanders on Saturday.

The wind in Kona played havoc with the hair of Jimmy Seear, but moved nicely past the Ventum.

Dimond showed a new fork with a magnetic front brake cover and a 3T Aduro bar.

Guy Crawford and Kate Bevilaqua all smiles near the Ironman expo in Kona.

Enve introduced a new 7.8 model that is faster than the 8.9 wheels and will replace them. Joined by a 2.2 and 4.5.

The shapes of the new wheels are different front and back, and we will do a detailed feature soon.

The custom painted Cannondale Slice of Michelle Vesterby is an attention getter.

By mid afternoon the athletes headed out towards the airport faced a stiff headwind, but were flying on the way back.

After a long day in Kona everybody is tired.
