Andy Potts and Sarah Haskins escaped from Alcatraz with the titles and the bragging rights, but it surely wasn't easy. Below are images from the dreary day courtesy of Larry Rosa.

Andy Potts quickly found his running and cycling legs after exiting the water near the famous Alcatraz prison.

No march of the penguins here. It is a full on dash.

Bundled up fans watch the athletes as the race towards the swim-bike transition.

He who is first out of the water gets all the media love and attention.

It is full throttle for Laura Bennett here on the way to 6th place.

Mirinda Carfrae exited the water 3 minutes behind Sarah Haskins and had her work cut out.

Nothing is easy on the Escape From Alcatraz course. Here Shane Arters pushes up a climb on the way to 1st place in M45-49.

Santa Cruz resident Bevan Docherty rode just about the same pace as Potts, but a minute behind the race leader.

Slalom action is typically not popular in a triathlon.

Several athletes opted to compete on their road bikes, and so did Erika Erickson.

Mirinda Carfrae rode well but could not gain time on Sarah Haskins.

The weather conditions were not nice for fans and media, but the athletes were not really bothered.

Caution - two way traffic here.

Potts was solid all day and held off the charging Bevan Docherty.

Here comes the 6-time Champion.

Congrats from the runner-up finisher Bevan Docherty.

It was narrow in the end for Haskins, but she took the title - her first in as many attempts in Alcatraz.
