Aussie Brett Carter took the win at the full distance MetaMan Bintan in 8:43:58 and thus earned the lion share of the $60,000 prize purse. Kiwi Candice Hammond grabbed the women's title in 9:31:08.

Carter who has been under Brett Sutton's guidance since June of this year, seems to have taken full advantage of the opportunity and started his day in the very warm South China Sea with a race best swim of 48:10. The Aussie then biked 4:35:30 and closed out his day with a 3:18:24 run to earn the title, serious bragging rights and a nice $15,000 check. Fredrik Croneberg managed a 3:01:07 run, but had lost too much time to Brett Carter in the previous segments and thus had to settle for second place and $7,000. Petr Vabrousek took third place and with it received a $3,500 check.

In the women's race it was actually Belinda Granger who held the lead after the swim and bike with a race best bike split of 4:58:37, but the veteran Pro from Australia ran out of steam during the run and allowed Candice Hammond to charge past her for the win and the $15,000 check. Granger though hung on to take second place and Hungarian Erika Csomor rounded out the podium.
