Hit and run in St. Lucia

German Pro Andi Böcherer was injured in a hit-and-run incident on St. Lucia where he is currently getting ready for the Captain Morgan's Ironman 70.3 St.Croix.

Anytime we hear a story like this it hits home very hard as our Jordan Rapp was badly injured in a hit-and-run incident back in March of 2010.

Böcherer finished 3rd at Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico and has since been on St. Lucia with his family to train for season and avoid having to cross the Atlantic multiple times. He has posted regular updates about his training sessions and adventures on his Facebook page, but last night he shared the following.

"Lucky to be alive after hit & run accident. Yes, helmets save lives," said Böcherer on Facebook.

We reached out to Andi to learn how the accident happened and he told us the following.

"I was riding alone and a car who was turning simply did not see me. I was riding a road bike from my home stay family and the wheels and saddle were destroyed. Handle bars and stem likely need to be replaced too," said Böcherer to slowtwitch. "My family was of course shocked, and I am super glad they are here. My wife actually is a doctor."

We wish Andi Böcherer a speedy recovery and we will update this story as we learn more details.
