Jones wins Rev3 Williamsburg

Erin Jones combined a race-best 14:44 swim, a second-fastest 1:09:22 bike split, and a women’s quickest 38:47 10k run to finish in 2:04:18 with a 1:15 margin of victory over Laurel Wassner and 7 minutes flat over 3rd-place finisher Emily Sherrard.

Williamsburg was the third race of the revived Rev3 professional series which offers prize money based on the size of the age group field, with the money going to pro men or pro women on an alternating basis.

The pro races are now all Olympic distance, with the exception of the season-ending double super sprint at Cedar Point, Ohio.

Rev3 Knoxville led the season with a race for the women pros, followed by Rev3 Quassy, which had over 1,500 age group entries and a $15,000 prize purse for the men (the pro purse is scaled to AG entries). Rev3 Williamsburg had 800 entries, hence the $7,500 purse for women pros.

Rev3's purse formula incentivizes pros to promote its races.

Registrations for Williamsburg were up and supported a $7,500 purse.

The pro field was small but the racing was good. Erin Jones began the day with a 16-second advantage over Laurel Wassner after the swim. Wassner answered with a race-best bike split that gave her a 1:18 lead starting the run. Erin Jones countered with a race-best 38:47 run which bested Wassner by 2:07 and gave Jones a 1:15 margin of victory.
