Norseman is upping the game

More people than ever attempted to get in the 2016 Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon and that is great, as that meant a lot of money for a good cause. Norseman introduced a new application process for 2016 where each person interested in a slot had to pay an administration fee of 90 Norwegian Kroners (approx $10) and that fee minus transaction costs was donated to the Norseman partner Doctors Without Borders - almost $25,000.

Furthermore every entrant this year was issued a Norseman ID, so that if they were unlucky in the draw, they will now have two chances in the 2017 draw, three in the 2018 draw etc.

Every year in November social media portals are filled with posts by happy folks who got one of the coveted entries into the Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon in Norway, but it is a very tricky event to get in. The odds are simply low and his year it was even harder as 3,087 people from 66 countries from around the world attempted to grab one of these 250 entries. That number of 3,087 entrants was 30% more than the previous year, and a stunning 58% when compared to two years ago.

“We have had amazingly positive feedback from both athletes, sponsors and crew on our new draw process” says Isklar Norseman General Manger Dag Oliver. “Never before have we had so many positive mails and comments on social media from people who did not get a starting slot in the draw. It seems the feeling of contributing to a good cause is just as important as getting slightly better odds in next years draw.”

This year 2866 men and 221 women entered the race according to Norseman officials.

“Female applicants has been steady with around 7% of the total. But in the draw, women are allowed a 15% quota, and hence get better odds than men,” added Oliver.
