Specialized recalls Shiv aerobars

Earlier today Specialized in cooperation with the United States Consumer Safety Product Commission announced a recall of the 2012 – 2015 Carbon Aerobar With Aero Stem and Hydroformed Alloy Aerobar. This follows a Stop Sale action from a few weeks ago.

According to Specialized the affected Aerobars were sold as aftermarket equipment and original equipment on all Model Year 2012 – 2015 Shiv Tri models and the Model Year 2013 Transition Apex model. This notice does not apply to Shiv TT models or the Shiv Low-Stack Aerobar Clamp Set. The concern is that the extension clamp bolt on the Aerobars may break, which could result in the rider losing control and sustaining serious personal injuries.

In a letter to customers Specialized wrote "Your safety has been and always will be our top priority. THANK YOU for your patience as we’ve worked through this matter. At this point we are happy to begin replacing the extension mounting hardware on your Carbon Aerobars with Aero Stem or Hydroformed Alloy Aerobars, and getting you back riding safely. Our Rider Care team is receiving weekly shipments of all needed parts to support you. Please work with your SBC Retailer to have your bars re-worked."
