Blair Saunders and Amber Smolik won the Miami Man and USAT National Championship Half Iron Aquabike.
The inaugural Multisport Nationals were held as part of the Miami Man Triathlon, hosted by MultiRace. Sunday’s schedule featured championship events in long-course triathlon, long-course duathlon (run-bike-run), long-course aquabike (swim-bike), and international-distance aquabike (swim-bike). Multisport Nationals also included an aquathlon (swim-run), held on Saturday.
The weekend marks the first time five races have been held in the same venue at the same time, as opposed to different dates and locations.
The 2018 USA Triathlon Multisport National Championship Festival also gave athletes the opportunity to qualify for several different 2019 ITU World Championships.
In the USA Triathlon Aquathlon National Championship held on Saturday, Gregory Harper of Walnut Creek, California and Carla Moreno of Plantation, California won the male and female overall titles.
Justin Lippert and Lesley Brainard won the overall titles in the Miami Man Half Iron Triathlon.
“I’m stoked to nab my third national title of the year,” Lippert told USA Triathlon media. “As always, my plan was to swim, send, run. I sent it so hard on the bike I was seeing stars, but I was able to hold it together on the run to bring home the bread.”
Conrad Goeringer and Jennifer Rapaport won the top men’s and women's titles at the Miami Man and USAT National Championship Half Iron Duathlon.
“This was my first long-course duathlon and my first national championship, so it feels surreal,” Goeringer told USA Triathlon media. “I scoped out the start list prior to the race and saw that there were quite a few fast guys and that it was going to be a challenging day. The competition, combined with the searing hot temperatures, made for a very honest race.”
Blair Saunders and Amber Smolik won the overall titles at the Miami Man and USAT National Championship Half Iron Aquabike.
“I am absolutely thrilled and honored to be a national champion and to represent Team USA,” Smolik said. “Race conditions weren’t ideal with the rain and wet roads, but that made it that much more challenging and meaningful. I’m very grateful.”
The Miami Man organizers also included two events which did not serve as part of the USA Triathlon National Championship.
Ray Liu and Carla Moreno won the overall titles at the International Triathlon.
Trevor Tilly and Katie Zgorski won the overall titles at the Miami Man Collegiate Triathlon.
