Marcel Zamora Pérez closed out his Embrunman day with a 2:54:24 run to take the win of this very tough long distance event and is now a 3-time champion. Jeanne Collonge grabbed the women's title with a dominating performance and has earned some serious bragging rights.
Team TBB teammates Andres Castillo Latorre and David Dellow led the men's field out of the water in just under 45.5 minutes. The next chasers Marcel Zamora Pérez and Benoit Augueux needed right around 49 minutes for the 3800 meter swim.
On the tough bike course Dellow was riding in the lead, but behind him Victor Del Corral Morales used a race best split of 5:48:55 to move to the front of the race towards the end. Zamora Pérez was also riding well with a 5:54:51 time, but that only meant he kept pace with Dellow who recorded a 5:54:57.
The Aussie started the run first, but the two Spaniards behind him were moving faster and reeled in Dellow. Zamora Pérez though had the best run and moved past his countryman to take the lead and eventually the win in 9:39:22. Del Corral Morales finished second and Dellow grabbed the final podium spot.
Jeanne Collonge swam well and got out of the water in just under 54 minutes, but she really did the damage to her competitors on the bike with a race best 6:38:20 bike split. No other female finisher actually managed to ride that tough course under 7 hours and that gave Collonge enough of a lead to take it easy during the run.
But Collonge did not take it easy and her 3:30:12 run was in fact faster than the times of the closest challengers. Her final time of 11:07:10 gave her the win and 13th place overall. Isabelle Ferrer finished second and Erika Csomor third.
