The SRAM Rival 22 group

SRAM will now offer a Rival 22 group in either a hydro rim or disc brake version, plus a mechanical rim brake edition is also on offer from this Chicago, IL based brand. The group has been completely redesigned and I rode a hydro rim version equipped bike one afternoon in Utah. It felt solid and shifted well, and had I not been the wiser I would not have known if it was Red, Force or Rival that was under me.

Here now is what this new group looks like.

An ice grey black anodized finish graces most of the the parts, but are very distinctive on the Rival DoubleTap shifters. The bike we chose to shoot had a hydraulic disc brake setup, and word has it that this will be so for the majority of OE bikes.

The cranks for the new Rival 22 should look great on most bikes.

The Rival 22 front derailleur features Yaw cage technology and an integrated chain spotter. Weight is reported to be 88 grams with said spotter.

The rear Rival 222 hydraulic disc brake setup features forged aluminum calipers and stainless steel hardware. Weight per wheel with lever, rotor and line is 493 grams.

We also snapped images of a bike set up with mechanical rim brakes. These dual pivot ones have clearance for up to 28mm tires.
