Sam Appleton's new speedy ride

Aussie Sam Appleton grabbed the win at the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong and here is a closer look at his SRAM, Zipp, 51 Speedshop, Continental and CeramicSpeed equipped new Giant Trinity Advanced Pro. In Geelong he rode 2:05:28 and then ran down Josh Amberger, who had bested him during the swim, to capture the win in 3:45:52. In 2017 Appleton and Amberger also battled in Geelong all day long with Appleton also coming out on top then too.

Appleton is 5'9" tall and weighs 145 pounds and his Giant Trinity Advanced Pro 0 is a size small.

Here is Sam Appleton with his bike, and Giant Australia has been a great supporter of the sport of triathlon over the years.

Up close with the front end of the Applelton Giant Trinity Advanced Pro 0. The extensions are by 51 Speedshop and the the Giant aero vault integrated front hydration system has a 750ml capacity. Appleton uses the bento box on the toptube to store gels.

This perspective shows how clean the front end is, helped in part here by the wireless SRAM Red eTap group.

The 51 Speedshop extensions are set up tight, and Appleton has no tape on the extensions. The arm pads are also by 51 Speedshop.

According to Appleton this bento box has a 290ml capacity, but I failed to ask how many gels he carried during the race. The eTap blip box is also hidden in there.

The SRAM Red eTap group on Appleton's Giant features a Quarq Dzero power meter and 55/42 SRAM aero chain rings.

The bike has a Zipp Super 9 carbon clincher disc and a Zipp 808 front wheel with Continental GP 4000s II tires (25mm rear, 23mm front). There is also a CeramicSpeed OSPS and a KMC UFO chain.

The bottom bracket also has CeramicSpeed bearings and the crank length is 165mm.

The Giant aero bottle on the downtube can hold 450ml.

The Giant Speed Control SL brakes are integrated on the Giant Trinity Advanced.
