Lancaster Family YMCA Triathlon
September 7, Penryn, Pennsylvania.

I've got to be honest with you. Ordinarily this triathlon wouldn't make the Party Tour. I doubt you can get a good margarita in central Pennsylvania. Penryn certainly must have its charms, but it's certainly no Rifle. And what with the religious situation being a little dicey there just now, you won't find any mile-4-of-the-run aid station like Wildflower has.

That aside, I am really intrigued to see just what will happen at the Lancaster Family YMCA Triathlon this year. For one thing, I've got it on good authority that quite a few folks are going in costume. And I would guess this race is going to get a LOT of coverage from the secular media (the non-triathlon media, I mean).

Don't tell me you haven't heard of this race. Personally, I think they just ought to rename it the Harry Potter Triathlon. We've covered it as news and interviewed the race promoter. In short, these YMCA people read Harry Potter books to kids after school, and as a result they can't get their traffic controlled locally since the people who control the traffic voted unanimously not to do so, as it would promote the spreading of witchcraft. So there.

It will be the 20th annual running of this event which appears to have been run just fine over the years. It's high water mark was about 600 entrants, and generally they get about 450. But THIS year I'm wagering it's going to be different. I truly don't know what to expect, except I predict a record field of starters and an usually high degree of weird starters. My kind of race.
