The Long Run

The guy pictured at right is Greg Hitchcock. We at Slowtwitch have no idea if this jokester really plays the guitar. We suspect he knows a bit about law, because he is an attorney.

What we doknow is, he knows a lotabout running, and at our request he's agreed to be an occasional guest columnist at Slowtwitch.com, specializing in articles specific to running.

Our publisher, Dan Empfield, used to hold the South Tahoe High School record in the one-mile run, at 4:19.4, until Greg Hitchcock had the bad taste to run faster. He ended up with high school PRs of 4:18 in the mile and 9:12 in the 2-mile before going to University Oregon, where he was the number-3 man on Oregon's XC team back when that really meant something.

His PRs are 8:02 for 3K, 13:56 for 5K, 28:32 for 10K, and 2:18:53 for the marathon. Although he is no longer a competitive runner, he still holds school records and course records all over the west. He is also one of the very few people to have ever competed in NCAA Division I championships in XC running, track & field, and XC skiing.
