The 2012 Celtman video

The inaugural Celtman Extreme Triathlon took place in the Torridon, Scotland region last weekend and here is a video of Robby MacBeath from this new "must be on the bucket list" event.

Athletes started their epic adventure in the town of Shieldaig with a 3.8km swim in Loch Shieldaig before embarking on a 200km bike segment on very quiet and beautiful Scottish Highlands roads, and they then finished their day with a very tough 42km mountainous run. According to the cxtri.com website, athletes during the run had to tackle Ruadh-stac Mòr (Big Red Stack) on one of the spurs off the main ridge of Beinn Eighe and that Munro stands at a height of 1,010m. The second Munro, Spidean Coire nan Clach (Peak of the Corrie of Stones) on that run course is the highest point on the main ridge itself. It stands at a height of 993m.

Alex Glasgow from Scotland took the men's title with a 50:43 swim, 6:28:17 bike effort and race best 4:45:39 run, while multiple Norseman champion Susanne Buckenlei from Germany bested all the women with a 50:54 swim, 6:51:03 bike segment and a 6:05:06 run for a final time of 13:55:33 and 15th place overall. Word has it that both Celtman winners also celebrated their birthdays on race day. About 120 athletes participated in this inaugural event, and organizers closed out the event early on to keep the field small. Future fields are not expected to accept more than 200 athletes.

The event is based on the Norseman Extreme Triathlon and had the blessing of the Norseman organizers with Norseman maven Dag Oliver present.
