Joe Gambles took the win at the 2013 Revolution3 Quassy Triathlon with defending champion Richie Cunningham in second place and Bevan Docherty in third. Heather Wurtele bested Heather Jackson to take the women's title, and Annabel Luxford rounded out the podium.
Eric Limkemann was first out of the water in 23:51 with David Kahn next in 24:17. The first of the favorites though was Bevan Docherty who exited the water in third position, 30 seconds behind Limkemann.
Andrew Starykowicz started the bike about 70 seconds behind the leader, but he moved swiftly to the front. When it was all said and done Starykowicz had the fastest bike split of the day with a 2:14:09 effort, and Limkemann's 2:17:01 allowed him to still be in contention going into the run. But by now Joe Gambles, Richie Cunningham and Christian Kemp had also moved themselves into good positions with sub 2:17 splits.
It all came down to the run and the race best 1:13:50 run of Gambles made the difference at the end, with Cunningham and Docherty running just under 1:15. Kevin Collington had actually lead the run until mile 8, but he ran a bit out of gas and drifted back to 5th place. Gambles crossed the line in first place in 3:57:22 and earned the prestigious Rev3 Quassy title and a nice $13,000 pay check. Cunningham finished second and Docherty ended up in third. Bike leader Starykowicz ran a 1:27:37 and fell outside the top ten.
Jennifer Spieldenner was the first female Pro out of the water in 25:43, but she would not finish the race. Annabel Luxford was next in 25:45 and she put on quite show.
Once on the bike Luxford cranked out a 2:30:19 bike split and that allowed her to reach the bike-run transition in first place. Heather Wurtele combined a 27:42 swim and a 2:30:40 bike split to bring her into T2 in second place, about 2:15 behind Luxford. Heather Jackson had the fastest bike split of 2:30:00 and she was next in transition about 4 minutes behind the leader.
Wurtele then cranked out a very fine 1:22:00 run and that gave her the win in 4:22:18 and a $13,000 pay check for her effort. Plenty of money to enjoy a few rides in the Quassy Amusement Park.
Heather Jackson ended her day with a fast 1:21:26 run to capture the runner-up spot, and Luxfors dropped back to third place with a 1:28:34 run. Fastest run was by Kelly Williamson in 1:20:59, but her 2:45:05 bike split cost her a podium place.
