In this Weekend Box we cover the SunSmart Ironman Western Australia, a day where folks could have opted to stay home but didn't, and a very nice custom handmade employee appreciation award.
Jurkiewicz and Lyles victorious in Busselton
Former Team Abu Dhabi Pro Jeremy Jurkiewicz from France and German Pro Markus Thomschke came to Western Australia and snagged the top two spots of the podium from the Aussies. Jurkiewicz was fastest in the water with a 47:03 swim, had a very fast bike time of 4:29:17 and then closed out his day with a race best 2:48:18 run. Thomschke came out of the water in 10th place but worked hard on the bike and the run to take the runner-up spot ahead of David Dellow. Former Musketeer Todd Israel finished fourth. Andreas Raelert started too but dropped out with an injury.
Elizabeth Lyles was near the front of the race most of the day but it was her closing 3:00:37 run that allowed her to move past German Mareen Hufe and Aussie Lisa Marangon to take the win. Hufe who had the fastest bike split of 4:47:53 held on to second place and Marangon rounded out the podium.

Single Speed Cyclocross Worlds Philly
On a day in the Northeast where must folks sought refuge near their fireplace in their home, a rowdy crowd in Philadelphia, PA spectated and competed in the 2013 Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships. Cold temperatures and snow seemed to actually inspire the crowds even more and good times were seemingly had by all. We don't really know who won, nor do we really care, but it is a wonderful display of not letting the weather get the best of you. Kudos to all who spectated and competed.
The nun in action here is Anne Rock, a Nathan Sports rep in the Northeast and when not at work is usually busy competing herself.
The spectators were awesome indeed.
A very thoughtful award
The TriSports crew had their holiday party this weekend and CEO Seton Claggett handmade the employee of the year award for IT guy Patrick Howard. Claggett told us that woodworking is his hobby and when he finally retires and can practice he might be really good. It looks pretty good to us now.
The award started somewhere along those lines.
