Up close with Frederik Van Lierde's new Cervelo P5

Frederik Van Lierde recently took delivery of a brand new Cervelo P5 with disc brakes. He then took it to Mexico to race the Campeche 70.3 and rode a superb 2:00:54 bike split and was first off the bike with a solid lead. He however then struggled during the run and fell back to 5th place. But let us now look at his new bike, and keep a drool bucket ready.

The 2013 Ironman World Champion Frederik Van Lierde rides a 56cm P5, and he is 6' tall and weighs around 162 pounds. His Cervelo is equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 components and Mavic wheels.

The all new mono riser extensions on this bike were first shown on Cervelo's P5X and offer a nice range of adjustments with great aero data. Frederik Van Lierde has his extensions set relatively low and his saddle to armpad drop is 10 cm.

The Never Look Back message inside his Cervelo bento box is cute but likely covered with gels and other items when racing.

Frederik Van Lierde rides 175 mm Rotor 2INPOWER Cranks with 55-44 Rotor Q Rings, and Speedplay Aero pedals.

His rear Mavic Comete disc hides the rear disc brake on the other side, and Frederik Van Lierde has mounted a Continental 5000 clincher tire on it. Up front he rides a tubeless tire. He has various CeramicSpeed parts - but not limited to this OSPS system.

The new Cervelo aero bottle looks sharp, and obviously fits seamlessly on this frame.

A Prologo TT saddle supports Van Lierde during training sessions and racing action.

A XLab Gorilla cage is directly mounted to the seat post of the P5, and he also carries an Enervit bottle there.

The disc brakes are here to stay and we will see more and more of them in the future.
