Course Info: Gravel Triathlon

The triathlon distance will be a .5 mile swim, 16 mile road and gravel bike ride through the rolling country-side, and a 4 mile run that's out-an-back on a gravel path that hugs the lakeside! See course maps for more details!

Gravel Aquabike (Note: there's a 1/2 mile of running)

Will feature the same .5 mile swim and 16 mile bike as the triathlon distance event. Once athletes finish the bike they'll transition to their running shoes for a .5 mile run to the finish line area on the other side of the lake. We know, this is a bit more running than a traditional aquabike, but it's due to the distance between the transition area and the finish line area.

Stand-Up Paddle-Board Option

This option is limited to just 30 stand-up paddle-boarders due to the limited space in the starting area! Instead of a swim, you'll simply start the race and complete the .5 mile swim course on your stand-up paddle-board.

Please note: you must supply your own stand-up paddle-board.

More:

We didn't get the chance to launch this race in 2020, but that didn't diminish our passion for this brand new style of triathlon! To say this race is ?unique? would be an understatement! Limited to just 250 athletes, we're excited to announce the first ever gravel triathlon to the Colorado triathlon landscape! This event is set at Stagecoach Reservoir, a quiet and picturesque lake just 15min south of Steamboat Springs, with camping options for the entire family.

After the swim in the waters of Stagecoach Reservoir, it?s time to bring out either the gravel bike, road bike, or mountain bike. Just leave your triathlon bike at home. The course starts out with a short-paved section of 2.1 miles, before transitioning to rolling gravel country roads through some of the most scenic terrain imaginable. The total bike distance is 16 miles, with the final 3 miles of the course on pavement as athletes head back towards the transition area! Once off your bike of choice, it?s time to toss on those running shoes for a 4-mile run on a gravel trail that hugs the shoreline of Stagecoach Reservoir, (Note: ? mile total on paved roads)! Come join us for this one of a kind triathlon experience, complete with a stand-up paddle-board option for the non-swimmers!

Directions: From Steamboat Springs: Travel east on U.S. 40 (Towards Rabbit Ears Pass), then take a right on Highway 131 (heading south), turn left on CR 14. Do not take the main entrance into Stagecoach Reservoir, but continue on CR 14 towards CR 16. Right before you hit CR 16 you'll see the transition area parking lot on your left-hand side (Note: there is no gear DROP-OFF, unless you have a special SUP pass), take a left on CR 16 towards athlete parking.

PARKING: We have one parking lot for the first 40 athletes right as you turn onto CR 16 (this will fill up quickly), the next parking lot is on a private road - Blue Valley Lane, please follow the signs and parking volunteers. You'll walk about a 1/2-3/4 mile from your car to the transition area, perfect warm-up to stretch your legs. We repeat: there is no gear DROP-OFF by the transition area, unless you have a special SUP pass.

CAMPING: One thing that makes this event so special is the abundance of camping options at Stagecoach Reservoir. You can hang out around the camp fire with your fellow athletes, then wake up just on the other side of the lake, and ride your bike one mile down to the transition area race morning. It really doesn't get much better than that. Space is limited, and reservations are done directly through the state park system (system opens for reservations 180 days out from your targeted date)

SPECTATORS: It is highly recommended that spectators arrive with the athlete on race day, or prior to 7:30am. Please note that if you arrive after 8:00am athletes will be racing on the roads around the spectator parking area. Not only does this cause extra congestion on course for the athletes, but will also delay your expected arrival time.

Map location is based off of a geocode of the addressed entered using Google's Google Maps API. If your address does not geocode properly, you can either update the address (we will attempt to re-geocode after any updates to your entry) or you can use Google's geocoding tool found here: http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/geocoder/singlegeocode.html to obtain a lat/long for your location and enter that. To use the utility, type in an address that is close to your location and then drag-and-drop the marker to obtain the desired lat/long. If you choose to enter a lat/long, you must check the box on the edit page that says, "override geocode with entered lat/long."
