Badwater to Mt. Whitney summit

Don Bowie raced from Badwater in the Death Valley to the summit of Mt. Whitney (14,501 feet) in just over 17 hours. That is 141.5 miles total of cycling and running with 23,346 feet of total elevation gain. A very impressive feat to say the least, but Bowie is not done. He will attempt to go even faster on this course this summer, and then will try to do a similar stunt climbing 23,000 foot Mount Aconcagua in Argentina in less than 24 hours. A stunt it actually isn't as he is an ultra experienced mountaineer and endurance athlete.

That would about 130 miles on the bike without much shade.

The run is about 11 miles, but it is clear that not all sections can be run fast or at all.

Bowie's mountaineering prowess came in handy higher up on Mt. Whitney.
