Dye, Samuels take Columbia

Non-drafting star Cameron Dye of the U.S. and ITU veteran Nicky Samuels of New Zealand won the 30th annual Columbia Triathlon on a rainy day in Maryland.

Dye finished in 1:51:02 with a 1:21 margin over runner-up Bevan Docherty of New Zealand and 1:47 over bike star Andrew Yoder of the U.S., who placed 3rd and thus successfully defended his title from 2012.

Brent McMahon and Tom Davison finished 4th and 5th.

Samuels topped the runner-up, Ironman and middle distance star Meredith Kessler of the U.S., by 2:25, and outpaced 3rd-place finisher, Canadian 70.3 star Angela Naeth, by 6:04. Samuels set three records along the way with an overall record winning time of 2:01:39, a course record bike time of 1:03:57 and record course run time of 36:40.

Radka Vodickova and Laurel Wassner were 4th and 5th.
