Goldberg arrested for grand larceny

Written by: Dan Empfield
Date: Mon Aug 09 2010

Jason Goldberg, former bike retail employee turned team manager and pro athlete agent, has been arrested in New York.

The arrest was based on a warrant for third degree grand larceny, such charges stemming from an accusation that Goldberg sold products destined for use by the professional athletes he represented.

Goldberg represented at various times Saul Raisin, Bjorn Andersson, Paul Fritzsche, Bryan Rhodes, among others.

Goldberg has also been accused by several followers of Slowtwitch.com of sales that were not consummated by the transfer of the purchased product to the buying customer.

Goldberg was taken into custody Friday, August 6, by special agents for Homeland Security and NYPD. He was arraigned by a judge in the NY court system.

Thank you, Slowtwitch, for reporting on this story. It's important that people like this are stopped from destroying the respect that those of us who are working legitimately, diligently and with our clients' best interests in mind have earned and work hard to keep.

A note to manufacturers, race directors, and of course pro athletes: please don't let the alleged behaviors of Jason Goldberg ruin your image of the actual sports marketing agents in the triathlon world. While we cannot promise LeBron James's earnings, we can promise -- and demonstrate -- that we will work reputably, honestly and hard on your behalf to help build your opportunities, income, visibility, and the value in your brand/name.
