Jones, Goss take Kansas 5i50

After organizers were forced by lightning to cancel the swim, Jordan Jones and Lauren Goss won the Kansas 5i50 impromptu duathlon in Lawrence Sunday.

Golden, Colorado’s Jones led the men after a 56:52 leadoff bike split, then closed the deal with a 2nd-best 33:39 run to finish in 1:31:19 with a 1:51 margin of victory over runner-up Jon Bird of Canada and 2:40 over third place finisher Michael Poole of New Zealand.

Goss, of Clermont, Florida, followed her 5th-best 1:05:17 bike split with race-fastest 36:52 run to finish in 1:42:47 with a 1 minute 2 seconds margin of victory over runner-up Andrea Steyn of South Africa and 1:11 over 3rd place finisher Sam Warriner of New Zealand. Sara McLarty started fast with a race-best 1:04:37 bike split followed 18 seconds later by Jillian Petersen’s 1:04:55.
