The Carfrae/Dibens swim off

A few weeks ago Brit Julie Dibens and Aussie Mirinda Carfrae had fun with a little online swimming trash talk on twitter and facebook and they decided to have a swim off. Because 2009 Ironman 70.3 World Champion Dibens actually has a swimming background and is well known for her prowess in the water among other things, the swim challenge was slightly adjusted. Various handicaps were discussed over time and in the end the swim off was structured as follows. 2009 Ironman World Championship runner-up and 2007 Ironman 70.3 Champion Mirinda Carfrae got to swim the 100 meters freestyle, while Julie Dibens had to do the same distance using the backstroke. Eric Wynn was at the Flatirons Athletic Club in Boulder, CO during Monica's 11am class to see the race in person. He put together the video below and sent it to slowtwitch.

There will be another swimming race before the Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii when both of them are completely fresh and primed.

Call in the Marines! Call in Clint Eastwood! Julie's sportin' guns! Those would scare Bin Laden out of the caves for sure! I'll go out on a limb and say she's got the best/sexiest/strongest arms in the sport!
OK, now to be serious: These kinds of things (the Carfrae - Dibens swim) are really fantastic for our sport. We need more things like this and the Lieto vs. Lance TT.
