CGI to sell Velo and TriRock brands

About 3 years ago Competitor magazine switched from an outlet that covered a variety of endurance sports to a running only magazine, and now Competitor Group announced the strategy to focus on the running core and is thus exploring opportunities for the Velo, VeloPress and TriRock brands.

"Competitor Group’s senior management team is solely dedicated to our Board of Director’s strategic direction to become the world’s greatest running company. Rock ‘n’ Roll and Competitor have always been our largest brands and we’ve made a renewed commitment to focus on our core. Running is the fastest growing participatory sport in the world," said Competitor Group spokesperson Dan Cruz to slowtwitch.

That renewed commitment to running apparently means no room for Velo and VeloPress, and the TriRock triathlon series also does not really fit into the picture. Given of course that a perfect suitor must be found first.

"The TriRock and Velo brands wouldn’t be tied together. We are just starting the process and identifying opportunities," said Cruz. "If we find the right party who values each of these brands as much as we do, then we’ll take the next step in the process."

What does that mean for Triathlete magazine and the triathlete.competitor.com website? Competitor Group announced that they want to hold on to those entities.

"Triathlete Mag is not part of the discussion," added Dan Cruz. "We recognize there are synergies and common ground between running and triathlon and we have a leadership position with triathlete and triathete.com. Race IT is also an active player in the triathlon registration space and many of their events advertise through triathlete. We will continue to leverage that position to support our partners and core business objectives."
