Kienle, Wutti take Heilbronn

Sebastian Kienle's race best bike and run splits helped him capture the 2012 Sparkassen City Triathlon Heilbronn powered by Audi in 2:48:25. Eva Wutti captured the women's title in 3:14:34.

Defending champion Andi Böcherer was first out of the water in 22:40, with Daniel Unger next in 22:44 and Timo Bracht another 2 seconds adrift. Sebastian Kienle was 10th after the swim with a 24:18 effort, 1 second behind Lothar Leder.

Andi Böcherer stomped the bike and reached T2 with about a minute advantage on the next Pros, but it was Kienle who had managed to move even closer to Böcherer with a race best bike effort. Ronnie Schildknecht also had a superb outing on the bike and reached the bike-run transition right behind Kienle. Bracht on the other hand had lost almost 3 minutes to Böcherer and now had his work cut out for him.

Kienle and Schildknecht managed to catch Böcherer fairly soon and 6.5k into the run Kienle had established a 20 second advantage. Böcherer fought back and dropped Schildknecht, but he could not catch the lanky Kienle. Kienle ran extremely well and took the win in 2:48:25. Böcherer was next in 2:49:45 and Schildknecht rounded out the podium in 2:50:06.

Mignon Vatlach led the women out if the water in 23:53 and had 2 minutes on the next Pro.

Eva Wutti though made up her 3-minute disadvantage in no time on the bike and by the time the Austrian reached the second transition she was 11-minutes ahead of Vatlach. Daniela Sämmler reached T2 in second position 3:30 after Wutti and Natascha Badmann was next about 1:50 behind Sämmler.

Sämmler closed in on Wutti with a very good run but in the end she was 22 seconds shy of catching the Austrian. Wutti took the tile, with Sämmler in second place and Badmann taking third.

In addition the the nice price money for first place, Kienle and Wutti will each be able to enjoy an Audi A6 3.0 TDI for a year. Until next year's City Triathlon Heilbronn that is.
