Island Lava Java is a popular hangout in Kona and when you are racing or training in Roth you must go to Cafe Bäckerei Schmidt. In many ways it is similar to Lava Java but it is of course also distinctively German. For one it actually has 3 locations with 2 of them directly on the course and the other one pretty much there. The selection of baked goods, breakfast items, salads, pastas and other meal offerings is incredible and everything looks delicious. With the DATEV Challenge Roth in town you see plenty of folks in lycra, but the 3 locations are also popular with locals. Beware though, there is no internet.

This could be considered the main location and it is on the Allersberger Str in Hipoltstein. It is quite close to the swim start and the camp grounds.

It is of course a bakery, but it isn't just a bakery.

The menu on the big blackboard on the restaurant side offers a great selection of items.

The line was quite long on the restaurant side too.

There were all kinds of prepared sandwiches available.

Be sure to save some appetite for the deserts.

This editor opted for a Bauern Frühstück, or farmers breakfast. All of this with the hot chocolate was 6.80 Euros.

You can also sit inside if the weather isn't as inviting outside.

This is a slightly smaller Cafe Bäckerei Schmidt on Hauptstrasse 16 in Eckersmühlen.

They are also working with the triathlon crowd.

This is the downtown Roth location on the Hipoltsteiner Strasse and it isn't too far from the expo.
