Filip Ospaly grabbed the win at the 2010 Nautica New York City Triathlon and with it helped his efforts in the Race to the Toyota Cup. Rebeccah Wassner won the women's title.

The men

Ethan Brown surprised himself when he led Kyle Leto and Filip Ospaly out of the water. Toyota Cup points leader Matty Reed stumbled and hit the railing with his knee as he took of his goggles. He looked quite stunned for a few seconds but continued on.

David Thompson started the bike about 40 seconds behind race leader Ospaly who had used a speedy transition to drop both Brown and Leto. Thompson's 57:59 split was fastest of the day and 54 seconds quicker than the second best split of Ospaly. Coming back into T2 Reed wiped out one more time as he ran his bike into transition and decided to call it a day.

"No way I could run. Leg massive charlie horse," said Reed on twitter.

Ospaly had no such issues and soon ran past Thompson on his way to win the 2010 Nautica NYC Triathlon. Thompson crossed the line in second place about 30 seconds later and Leto was third 4:32 further back.

The women

Sara McLarty was the first Pro woman out of the water, and with her time would have also been first among the men. Overall though the swim times seemed to point at a short swim distance.

McLarty also cranked out a super fast bike split and only Rebeccah Wassner managed to out split her in that discipline. Coming back to the transition area both McLarty and Wassner were within striking distance of each other, and Laurel Wassner next into transition a bit further back.

Laurel Wassner then managed to have a faster run split than her twin sister Rebeccah by 11 seconds, but after swim, transition, bike and the second transition Rebeccah had a 2:02 advantage and crossed the line first. The fastest run of the day belonged to Nicole Kelleher who helped herself to the final podium position. McLarty faded on the run but hung on for fourth place.

I can only agree that Filip is one of the least profiled athletes and he definitely needs more attention! I am sure you will hear more about him pretty soon as his focus is moving from ITU racing towards 70.3 races and Lifetime Fitness...

Congrats Filip! 5 out of 5 stars
