No more struggling to clean up the SRM wires on your frame as SRM is going wireless for 2008. The new SRM Wireless PowerMeter features ANT+Sport™ technology and that allows it to interface with the wireless SRM Power Control and other devices such as the Garmin Edge 705. Additionally SRM is going solar and that option will be available for most new Professional PowerMeters in 2008.

SRM Wireless Units Have Problems 3 out of 5 stars

Reviewed by: James Resner, Aug 28 2008 3:05PM

I purchased a new SRM Professional Wireless PowerMeter Dura Ace Compatible (8 strain gauges) about 2 months ago. My initial problem was a faulty handle bar mount that caused the Power Control Unit to come loose and take a fly on my very first ride. The unit was damaged and I had to send it back to SRM. It took them over a week to repair it (they would not send me a replacement via cross ship, even after I offered to use a credit card to cover the replacement). And them after expressly telling them that the mount was defective (and having the authorized dealer I bought it from test it with a different mount, confirming mine was defective), they sent the repaired unit back with the same handlebar mount.

After having the unit recalibrated (and held in place with electrical tape) we discovered that there was a problem with the power meter wireless signal. According to SRM, the geometry of my frame (basic carbon TT) interferes with the signal, causing erratic data recording.

At the time of this writing, I am still waiting to hear from SRM on a new firmware that will supposedly address this issue. When it is ready, I'll have to send the unit back to SRM to be reflashed.

Through this entire process they have been difficult to get in touch with and appear to be not overly concerned about customer satisfaction.

I bought SRM based on recommendations of the local dealer (whom I trust) but even they have been surprised at the problems I've encountered.

Bottom line is this: consider the new wireless SRM units to be a BETA. They obviously did not do through testing or something as simple as signal strength on a TT frame would have been detected early on.

As of this writing I would not recommend this product.
