Quintana Roo V-PRi Prototype: Kristian Høgenhaug’s Secret Weapon at the IRONMAN World Championship

Kristian Hogenhaug arrives in Nice after a pair of impressive full-distance runner-up finishes that helped put him near the top of the IRONMAN Pro Series this year. At the IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt behind the other speedy Kristian (Blummenfelt), and then he took second again a few weeks later (behind Matthew Marquardt) in Lake Placid.

As he looks for a top finish here in Nice, Hogenhaug has tried to optimize his bike to eke out as much performance as possible. Here’s a look at his QR V-PRi bike. Photos: Eric Wynn

The perks of being one of the best in the world — Denmark’s Kristian Høgenhaug gets to put Quintana Roo’s V-PRi Prototype (a version of the bike that weighs 350 grams less than the regular frame) to the test on Sunday in Nice.

Although he’s sticking with the Quintana Roo base bars, Høgenhaug will use a custom Aerogain cockpit.

On the rear is a DT Swiss Arc 1100 Disc with a 28mm Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT tire and an 11-34 tooth cassette.

At the front is an 85mm DT Swiss ARC 1100 wheel with 25mm Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT tire.

Høgenhaug will use Shimano Dura-Ace 12-speed shifting and a 58T Alugear chain ring. For pedals, he has the Favero Assioma PRO RS-2 set on his ride.

The Dane’s speedy ride features a Drag2Zero 1x chain guide and a Shimano Dura-Ace chain.

Høgenhaug will sit on a Wove saddle, behind which he has a TriRig hydration mount with two bottle cages.

  1. That attachment point for the cockpit to the base bar is making me nervous…And isn’t that an EZ Gains on the back, should give them some love.

  2. Cool.
    Would love to order one.

But … crazy US taxes on EU postal orders now.
    Oh, well.

  3. I have one on my Stella saddle. It’s really well made.

Where’s the uproar for his mono bar?

Also note the 25 mm front tire.

  5. Yes, I’m getting queasy just looking at that.

Sam Long and Matthew Marquardt as well.
triathlete.com’s article quotes 80-87PSI for Kristian’s front wheel

  8. I never said “crazy”?

  9. Like Saudi backed sport washing. The “big mono bar lobbyists” have worn us down.

    Yea I know it’s pretty dumb

I will say… At first this really worried me as well. But after talking with the guys at QR ( who by the way didnt do it) We did sort of figure out that it does have some pretty strong mass to it.

  12. I’m a huge fan of the eye test in engineering.

If it looks shit it’s generally shit. But if it’s safe, I guess it’s safe.

But seriously a bad trend of ugly triathlon bikes/set ups is becoming prevalent and I’m not here for it. Line things up.

Be honest: do you know how to change a flat on your bike?

If given the choice, you prefer to ride a wheel that is:

Do you believe that hookless wheels are unsafe, or simply not for you?
