Penny Slater’s Kona-Ready Trek Speed Concept
Australia’s Penny Slater got started in the sport just over a decade ago and, after a successful run at cross-triathlon where she earned two U23 world titles, made the jump to long-distance racing in 2021. A year after that the Canberra native quit her job as a high school teacher to pursue the sport full time, and highlighted her season with a fourth-place finish at IRONMAN Cairns before finishing 24th in her Kona debut. She would jump up 11 spots the following year in Kona, then crack the top-10 in Nice in 2024, taking seventh. Last year she also took second at IRONMAN Texas.
Slater took fourth once again in Cairns this year, setting up yet another run for the top-10 at the IRONMAN World Championship this weekend.
Slater’s Trek Speed Concept will be kitted with Evolve’s super-deep Charger rear wheel, a sign that she’s pulling out all the aero stops in the hunt for a fast bike split. Here’s a look at her ride:
