No Kona 2018 for Jan Frodeno

German triathlon superstar Jan Frodeno announced on Instagram that he won't be competing in the 2018 IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, Hawaii because of a hip stress fracture. Last year his race ended in Hawaii during the run, and now it appears that he will not be even at the start this year.

"Certainly not how I hoped this season would end. A stress fracture in my hip (SI joint)- see pic 2 for those interested. The highs and lows of sport have never been so close for me- winning a world title last week and being sidelined for the season the next. At least the @_promovement team kept the spirits going;) (last pic). Just a reminder to all of us that success never comes in a straight line... currently listening to Daft Punk- One More Time, so see you all next year ???? #FrodosOut #Literally" posted Jan Frodeno.

Earlier this year in June Frodeno crashed hard during a training ride and folks were worried about his season, but the man known by many as Frodo recovered fast and then returned in early July to grab the IRONMAN European Championships title in Frankfurt.

On September 2nd after a tight battle with Alistair Brownlee and Javier Gomez at the 2018 70.3 World Championships he again came out on top and was thus considered a likely favorite to take the 2018 title in Kona. But we will all have to wait another year to see that happen.
