ASICS Gel Lyte 33 (2013)

The second edition is, on my feet, more comfortable than its original version. If you want a lightweight shoe, but you don't want ultra low-drop, this shoe could be the one.

Saucony Mirage 3 (2013)

With this update to the Mirage 3, Saucony brings to market a nice new shoe. New due to significant, and positive, changes, which will open up this shoe to a larger segment of the market.

Nike Flyknit Trainer (2012)

At the big automotive industry shows the flagship brands impress with concept cars, showing the market what they're capable of creating. The Nike Flyknit Trainer is the concept shoe that made it to production.

Skechers GOrun 2012

When you pick up the box after you pay the bill you want to double check to see if the shoes are even in the box. They are extremely light at 6.9 oz. at a men's 9, and you can't believe they are meant to be trainers. Are they?

Bontrager RXL Hilo 2012

The new Hilo is a completely different shoe than the old. Almost everything they could change or update they did. I like it when a company learns from its shortcomings and Bontrager did.

Pearl Izumi Tri Fly IV (2012)

The Pearl Izumi Tri Fly III got a complete makeover, and the TriFly IV is an improved shoe as a result. The closure system, heel loop, the upper, all gets a makeover in a shoe that was already good last year.

Zoot Kalani 2.0 (2012)

When you see a heel loop, and a tongue loop, for fast and easy entering, the shoe was designed with triathletes in mind. The laces can be tightened in one pull. A lace lock and you're good to go.

Scott Tri Carbon Shoe (2012)

Scott's got a footwear division, making both running and cycling shoes. I'm impressed with the quality of its work. Overall these shoes are good, but certain design features need some upgrading.

Lake TX312

This is one hell of a shoe, created with passion for the sport, and it will definitely be my shoe for the coming season. Still, distribution and customer service will be this shoe company's challenge.

Altra Instinct (2012)

These shoes run great, but there's more to it. They felt so comfortable I started wearing them to my job in my running and triathlon store. I always get tired feet. But not in these.

Asics Excel33 (2012)

Asics has labeled this shoe natural which, according to the orthodoxy of today, it is not. Nevertheless, a terrific shoe it is. Sail over the squabble between what is and isn't natural, here's a great lightweight trainer.

Pearl Izumi Kissaki (2012)

This shoe has a 9mm ramp, and here is the strange thing. This is only 1mm of extra material in comparison to the Iso Transition, but it feels like there is about 4mm of extra material. This shoe is just that comfortable.
