Ready for Unbound: Chase Wark’s Lauf Seigla

Earlier this year Minnesota’s Chase Wark set the fastest known time for a 300-mile gravel race, winning the Mega Mid South event in 16 hours and 58 minutes. He won’t be going quite as far on Saturday here at Unbound Gravel – the 29-year-old will be competing in the elite 200-mile race in Emporia.

We caught up with Wark today at the expo and managed to grab some photos and details of his Lauf Seigla.

The fork features Lauf’s Grit 3rd gen Carbon Suspension Fork

The front wheel is HED’s Stillwater – a 50-mm deep wheel with 28.5 internal rim width and 37 mm external rim width. Wark is running Continental’s Dubnital 2.2 Race Rapid tire.

The rear wheel is a custom HED Stillwater rim with a disc fairing. It also has the Continental Dubnital tire on it.

Wark uses Silca Wax on the SRAM Red XPLR drivetrain (and power meter) that includes a 1x 50-tooth Wolf Tooth Aero chainring and a 10-46 cassette. He uses Keo Blade pedals.

  1. Great images and commentary.
And the race is being broadcast: competes with WTCS Alghero and T100 San Francisco for live audience (Venn diagram overlap).
With the fork image I’d have noted the
    Lauf-grit-3rd-gen
Did Wark share the pressures he’s running in those 2.2s?

Any commentary from Chase on why the chopped off drops on the handlebars? Is it a weight / aero thing?

  3. Both. He does not ride drops ever.

  4. Those BTS bottles look like they are going to fly out in the first 5k. The BK Race King shirt is awesome, but pink was not the best choice.

Do you think the new hydration and fairing rules are good for triathlon?
