Dan Alterman, Irena Mazin Win Israman 226

Dan Alterman of Israel took the Pro Men’s 226 title in 9:52:28 with a 6:51 margin over Dan Kony Ovchinikov and Israel’s Irena Mazin captured the women’s full-distance crown in 12:05:16.

Alterman’s Israman 226 win comes after a 5th in 2018, and 2nd places in 2019 and 2020. Mazin’s Israman women’s 226 victory comes after a 2nd place in 2020 and 5th place in 2019.

Antonina Reznikov finished the Women’s Professional 113 contest in 5:14:43 with a 17:16 margin over runner-up and fellow Israel competitor Hadas Mazar. Roee Zoarets finished the [rofessional men’s 113 category in 4:38:12 with a 6:25 margin over fellow Israel contestant Udi Alhanaty.

Men’s 226

Alterman began his day with a race-best 52:08 swim which gave him a 1:27 lead on Ovchinikov, 2:11 over Erez Aisenberg, 3:36 over Ofir Demlin and 7:05 over Amit Shaked. After a third-best 5:44:56 bike split, Alterman trailed Dan Kony Ovichinko (5:43:01 bike split) by 29 seconds while Shaked, Aisenberg and Ofir Demlin fell of the back. After a race-best 3:09:42 marathon, Alterman finished in 9:52:28 with 6:51 margin over Ovchinikov (second-fastest 3:15:49 marathon) and 11:27 over third place Amit Shaked (3:18:11 run split).

Women’s 226

In a fine solo performance, Irena Mazin began with a 1:13:13 swim in the Red Sea, spent 8:50 in the transition, rode 6:36:20 over the hilly bike source, spent 3:53 in transition and closed with a 4:03:03 marathon to finish in 12:05:16. Mazin’s 2022 mark was 1:35:46 slower than Antonina Reznikov’s 2020 winning time.

Pro Men’s 113

Roee Zoarets got off to a speedy start with a 2nd-best 23:22 swim. 1 second behind Eshed Itamar, and 58 seconds ahead of Emil Shakhkeldin, 2:58 on Udi Alhanaty, and 3:37 on Ori Mendel. After second-fastest 2:52:41 bike split, Zoarets trailed Alhanaty (2:51:17 bike split) by 1:34, and led Itamar by 1:27. Zoarets then secured the victory with a second-fastest 1:17:07 half marathon which brought him to the line in 4:38:12 with a 9 seconds margin over Eshed Itamar, who closed fast with a race-best 1:16:52 run split, and 6:25 over 3rd place Alhanaty (1:21:37 run).

Pro Women 113

Ronnie Zawlik led the Pro Women’s 113 swim wave with a 26:36 split which gave her a 6:11 lead on Antonina Reznikov and 7:16 on Hadas Mazar. After a women’s-best 3:06:00 bike split, Reznikov led Mazar by 12:34 and Zawlik by 27:27. After a by-far-best run split of 1:28:22, Reznikov finished in 5:14:43 with a 17:16 margin over Mazar (1:32:52 run split) and 36:48 over Zawlik (1:38:21 run split).

Reznikov, the most dominant woman in recent Israman history, thus followed her Israman 226 Pro Women wins in 2018, 2019 and 2020 with a 4th straight title, this one at the half distance.
