Raelert, Lidbury in Mallorca

Andreas Raelert came back on the run to win the inaugural Thomas Cook Ironman 70.3 Mallorca by 3 minutes and 1 second. Emma-Kate Lidbury of Great Britain held off Erika Csomor of Hungary and Silvia Felt of Germany by a narrow margin for the women's title.

Ironman 70.3 newcomer Newcomer Bertrand Billard of France broke into a substantial lead after a race-best 2:11:44 bike which put 3 minutes on Ironman Hawaii runner-up Andreas Raelert. But Raelert's race-best 1:11:46 half marathon wiped out Billard's lead halfway through the run. At the finish, Raelert's fast run put him across first in 3:53:07 and, after a 1:18:43 run, Billard trailed in 2nd, 3:49 back. Sylvain Sudrie, the 2010 ITU long course champion, was 3rd in 3:59:00.

Great Britain's Emma-Kate Lidbury led the women's race almost wire-to-wire with a second-best swim of 24:55, a second-best bike of 2:35:43, and a fourth-best 1:28:06 run that put her across the line in 4:33:18. Erika Csomor closed fast with a race-best 1:25:23 run but fell 32 seconds short of the win. Germany's Silvia Felt's race-best 2:34:16 bike and second-best 1:26:05 run could not overcome her 29:15 swim and she took 3rd, 59 seconds back of Lidbury.
