Selected Scenes at 2022 IM Lake Placid

The 2022 edition of IRONMAN Lake Placid took place this past weekend, and we were lucky enough to be on site for most of the day. IRONMAN also announced during the course of the weekend that the contract for Lake Placid had been renewed to last through the 25th anniversary race. We will be back on site next year as well as our Editor-in-Chief will look to participate in his first race since 2019.

A very warm day produced plenty of drama in the professional races. Here's some of the key action.

The cannon went off at precisely 6:25 AM to kick off this year's event, with the men charging into Mirror Lake.

Just two minutes later, the women charged into the water — with slightly less warning than the men had.

Eventual champion Sarah True came out of the water in second place.

Matt Russell's A-Squared bike. Yes, even IRONMAN champions will still sometimes cover their bikes.

Michael Weiss, always a strong cyclist, in pursuit on Mirror Lake Drive. He'd eventually finish second.

Justin Metzler passes age-group athlete Jack Vennetone as Metzler completes the 110 mile bike. This year's course was slightly shorter than normal due to construction.

True held second for most of the bike ride, inheriting the lead while in Wilmington and never looking back.

Dede Greisbauer can never be counted out, riding her way into a podium position before fading on the run.

Fan favorite Heather Jackson had her work cut out for her, emerging from the swim almost 15 minutes behind the leader. But she'd ride and run her way to a strong second place showing.

Metzler held the lead on the run until beginning the climb off of River Road back into town on lap two.

Cody Beals made up a more than four minute gap during the run to take the victory.

Weiss may have looked uncomfortable while running, but his performance was strong enough for second place.

True looked unstoppable once on the front, putting to rest whether she could perform in heat.
