Tamara Jewett Dominates at 70.3 Timberman
Canadian Tamara Jewett played her trump card with a sizzling fast 1:14:20 half marathon to finish in 4:13:39 with a 9:30 margin over runner-up Mirinda Carfrae of Australia and 12:26 over Heather Jackson of the U.S. at Ironman 70.3 Timberman. Jewett earned $7,500 for her victory.
The former track star came back from a 1:46 deficit after a 4th-best 28:48 swim in Lake Winnipesaukee, and advanced to second place during the bike, arriving to T2 with a 55 seconds deficit to swim and bike leader Ali Brauer. It was game over from there, as Jewett rocketed to a race-best 1:14:20 run split – 7:13 better than the next-best effort by 4th place Jodie Robertson and 9:34 better than eventual runner-up Mirinda Carfrae.
Jewett finished in 4:13:39 with a 9:30 margin over Carfrae and 12:26 over third place Heather Jackson, whose 1:21:33 run was second best on the day. The victory added to Jewett’s strong resume which includes 3rd at 2020 Ironman 70.3 Buenos Aires, a victory at the 2020 Canadian Pro Tri Day, a 4th at 2019 Augusta 70.3, and a 3rd at the 2021 Boulder 70.3.
Timberman marked the return to racing for Carfrae following the birth of her second child. She put together a balanced performance for a strong second place finish. Jackson, meanwhile, who is skipping next week's Collins Cup, rounded out the podium, edging Jodie Robertson by just under a minute for third.
