Ready for Another Step Towards the Podium? Hannah Berry’s Kona Cervelo P5

Her progression at the IRONMAN World Championship has been steady. In 2023, her first appearance, Hannah Berry finished one spot out of the top-10. A year later, in Nice, she moved up a spot to take 10th. Then came the huge breakthrough. On the tumultuous day that saw two of the biggest names in the sport keel over towards the tail end of the marathon, the Kiwi stayed strong and hung tough for a brilliant fourth-place. It was the best finish for a New Zealand athlete in Kona since 2007.
Berry’s journey to the highest levels of the sport has been anything but traditional. She’s got a PhD in Biotechnology Engineering (she seems to be OK with us skipping the Dr. before her name), and didn’t turn her sights to full-time racing until she was in her late 20s. She’s renowned for her consistency and steady abilities in all three disciplines, which led to a fourth-place finish in the inaugural IRONMAN Pro Series in 2024. Those results netted her a T100 contract in 2025, but this year she’s in 10th heading into Kona, with another IRONMAN race to count, so she could be on track for another top finish in the series.
That standing comes after a runner-up finish back home in Taupo, followed by a seventh-place finish at the competitive IRONMAN Texas. The year has seen a couple of podium finishes on the 70.3 front – a runner-up finish at 70.3 Boise and a recent win at IRONMAN 70.3 Sunshine Coast during her Kona training block.
Berry has paired her Cervélo P5 with Shimano’s new Dura-Ace wheels, including the 99-mm rear wheel the company has provided to its pro athletes for the race here in Kona this weekend.
We caught up with Berry to check out her Kona ride:
