Rev3 Williamsburg 2013 Video

Here is a very brief overview of the race course:

-We flew in to the Richmond airport (RIC). It took about 1 hour to drive from there to the race venue.

-Dual transition area (one for swim-bike, and another for bike-run). Get started early in the morning.

-One loop swim. While weather dependent, be ready for rough waters. Currents and waves can make it slow-going.

-Bike course is flat. Coming from Colorado, I’d almost call it ‘pancake-flat’, but I heard a few Midwesterners say they’d call it ‘rolling’. I used my small chainring – I think – twice.

-My gearing was 53/38 and 11-25 on 700c wheels. I wouldn’t change it. Most athletes can probably get away with an 11-26 or smaller cassette, but may want a mid-compact 52/36 or compact 50/34.

-The run has some hills, but nothing out-of-this-world. The half course does two out-and-backs.

-While I heard some criticism of this first-year event, I had a great time. There are things that every race can improve upon, and I’ve found that the Rev3 staff is eager to listen. I certainly couldn’t do a better job at it… so I’ll stick to tech writing, mediocre racing, and weak jokes. I’ll be here all night…
