2014 CX Worlds - women

The 2014 UCI Cyclocross World Championships took place in Hoogerheide, Netherlands and Marianne Vos stormed to another title in front of the home crowd. We had reported about the race in our Weekend Box and here now are images from the muddy affair through the lens of Tom Prenen.



The start seemed to go off without a hitch but Katie Compton far right reportedly struggled to get her pedals to engage.



Marianne Vos and Eva Lechner quickly moved to the front and pulled away.



The field was stretched out in no time and here Ellen van Loy already rounded the corner as Sanne Cant approaches it.



An here Christine Majerus leads Elle Anderson through this tricky sloppy section.



With Marianne Vos pulling away, Eva Lechner worked hard to limit the losses and stay ahead of the others



Katie Compton chased hard but it just was not her day.



French Pro Lucie Chainel-Lefevere on the way to 6th place.



Meredith Miller pushes up this section with German Pro Elisabeth Brandau right on her heels.



American Arley Kemmerer on the way to 34th place.



And Hannah Payton from the UK not far behind.



Meanwhile some folks with inappropriate footwear got assistance from friendly course volunteers.



As Marianne Vos crested this section there was no one else in sight and only an accident could have prevented her from taking her 7th World CX title.



Helen Wyman and Sanne Cant battle hard for that final podium spot.



Sweden's Asa Erlandsson on the way to 31st place.



Here comes the 2014 UCI Cyclocross World Champion Marianne Vos who was smooth all day.



Italy's Eva Lechner was about a minute behind Vos, but the chasers behind were much closer.



Helen Wyman and Sanne Cant could see Lechner up ahead.



In the end it was 9th place for Katie Compton, with next placed Americans Kaitlin Anonneau and Elle Anderson in 13th and 15th place respectively.



Meredith Miller finished 24th in Hoogerheide.



The Belgian fans made the jump to the neighboring country and showed color.
