A new challenge on slowtwitch

The month of June has just started and many people are preparing for Ironman Lake Placid or another event somewhere around the world. With the recent passing of Steve Larsen, we are dedicating the June virtual training camp challenge to this amazing athlete who left us far too young. In 2001, Steve was training hard during the month of June preparing for Ironman Lake Placid, a race he then won. Currently many athletes around the world are training for the same race, or other other challenging events in Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Canada. The Steve Larsen Memorial Ironman Lake Placid Virtual Training Camp challenge allows athletes to log their miles in honor of Steve Larsen in the slowtwitch training log, and all the miles logged will then automatically be pulled up into the Steve Larsen challenge. Well, first people have to go to the challenge page and opt to join this challenge, plus they can also join any other challenge available.

That being said, there is no charge associated either with the slowtwitch training log or the participation in this or any other challenge, but we would encourage participants to make a voluntary donation to Steve's foundation: rememberstevelarsen.com

"Steve Larsen left his loving wife and 5 children behind who supported him through all his athletic exploits that we were so entertained by. Collectively, we can make a difference to the lives of the children he left behind." said Devashish Paul who come up with the idea of the Steve Larsen challenge.

The training camp runs from June 1- 30 and all workouts that have been already done in June can be logged into the training log and will be pulled into the challenge.

The runs, bike rides and swims get awarded points based on Dan Empfield's points system:

* 100 m swim = 1 point
* 1 mile bike = 1 point
* 1 mile run = 4 points

Participants who earn 2000 points will be in the platinum club, those who accumulate 1600 points will be in the gold club, 1200 points will be the Silver Club and 800 points will be good for the Bronze Club. All these various Club levels are for bragging rights only and of hopefully some increased fitness.
