Andre Cilliers of Washington D.C. and Patricia Walsh of Austin, Texas won the men’s and women's overall crowns at the USA Paratriathlon Nationals Monday in Austin, Texas.
When extreme weather including some local flooding made water conditions in Lady Bird Lake unsafe, race officials canceled the swim and turned the Life Time Fitness Cap Tex Triathlon into a duathlon for the USA Paratriathlon Nationals.

Andres Cilliers opened with a 2nd-fastest 31:44 split for the 20 kilometer bike leg, and closed with a 3rd-fastest 18:58 split for the 5k run to finish in 52:01 with a 1:29 advantage on fellow Austin resident Joel Rosinbum and 2:48 on 3rd-place overall finisher Chris Tate of Reston, Virginia.
Cilliers, Rosinbum and Tate finished 1-2-3 in the PT4 Male category. Fourth overall Mike Wong of Chicago, Illinois won PT3 Male, 5th overall Jeremy Winters of Murfreesboro, Tennessee won the PT5 Male category and 7th overall Zachary Young of Jackson, Missouri won the PT1 Male division.
Legally blind Patricia Walsh of Austin finished 5th overall including the men, and won the women’s overall title in a time of 56:35. Walsh finished with a 2:09 margin on Elizabeth Baker of Signal Mountain, Tennessee and 2:29 ahead of 3rd-place women’s overall finisher Grace Norman of Jamestown, Ohio.
Walsh rode a 33:00 bike split which was the fastest women's time and 5th fastest including the men. She finished with a women's 5th-fastest 21:45 5k run split which was 17th fastest including the men.
Baker’s 58:44 time won PT5 Female honors and Norman’s 59:04 won the PT4 Female category.
Kendall Gretsch of Madison, Wisconsin finished in 1:01:10 to place 5th overall woman and won the PT1 Female division. Jennifer Clark of Crowley, Texas finished 10th overall woman and won the PT2 Female division in a time of 1:11:43
