Every time we feature a Canyon bike on our site, riders outside of Europe want to know how to get one, and now these machines are available to Australian and Kiwi cyclists and triathletes.

Japan and South Korea were the first countries outside of Europe that could order these bikes too, but moving forward people in Australia and New Zealand can order directly from canyon.com just as Europeans do. Canyon hired Darryl Moliere to be their market manager, to oversee service and ordering questions for these two Down Under countries, but the orders themselves will be handled and fulfilled through the German canyon.com portal.

“We have been eying up Australia and New Zealand for a number of years and are now prepared for market entry. These two markets have great potential but require a different approach due to the physical distance away from our base in Germany. When visiting Australia a few months ago I was taken aback by how large and engaged the cycling community is. Talking to riders over there it was clear that Canyon will be most welcome! With Darryl on board we have a market manager with years of experience and with an open mind on changing the bike industry by introducing a direct seller like Canyon. We are excited to get started and be able to offer the full Canyon experience to our customers from day one,” said Ward Grootjans, head of business development and intelligence for Canyon.

We have been pressing the brand for more information about the North American market, but Canyon is not talking about this topic - yet.

For those not familiar with the brand, Canyon does not follow the traditional retail model, but sells direct to the consumer. That makes these bikes financially attractive, but their customers also know that they are getting a smartly designed, well crafted, high tech bike.

Jan Frodeno and Nils Frommhold are the top professional triathletes currently sponsored by the brand, but they are not the only ones. Anne Haug, Michael Rünz, Boris Stein, Johannes Moldan, Franz Löschke, Markus Fachbach, Jens Kaiser and Katja Rabe are also competing on Canyon bikes, and we suspect that they will add a few non-European athletes to their roster soon.

Canyon also is heavily involved in road racing with Team Movistar and Nairo Quintana, and Team Katusha with Alexander Kristoff among others. Mountain bike racing is also big on their agenda and marketing plan.
