Pedersen critically injured

The Danish Triathlon Federation reported that 2013 Ironman European Champion Camilla Pedersen from Denmark is in critical but stable conditionon in the intensive care unit at Odense University Hospital after a bike crash in her native Esbjerg.

According to this update Camilla Pedersen received a fracture to the skull and a brain hemorrhage and therefore has been put in an artificial coma and respiratory support until Sunday to relieve pressure on her brain.

She is reported to be in critical but stable condition following the crash and won't be taken off the respiratory support until the weekend to give her the best possible recovery.

The Danish triathlete was training with a group from her club in her hometown Esbjerg and encountered a group of children who tried to cross the road in front of the group and then accidentally brought Camilla Pedersen down. It is reported that the group was not together at the time and it was an evasive maneuver by Pedersen that caused her to crash, and no other person was injured in this accident.

"We are all shocked about this situation and wishes a quick recovery for Camilla. This affects us all deeply, it's terrible when serious crashes like these happen to athletes so close to you. My only focus now is that Camilla recovers from the crash," said Camilla Pedersen's coach Michael Krüger.

Our thoughts are with Camilla Pedersen and we will keep you posted.
