An Epic Meltdown in Uganda

With the World Cross Country Championships hosted in Kampala, Uganda, Joshua Cheptegei paid a severe price for his mid-race kamikaze attack.

The 20 year-old Ugandan broke off the front of the race shortly after the halfway point and extended his lead over the defending champ, Geoffrey Kamworor, of Kenya, only to completely implode with 800 meters to the finish.

While Cheptegei lost out on the world title, by finishing the race, he contributed to Uganda's team score as their fourth runner and helped them secure the bronze medal by a mere three points over Eritrea.
