Intel acquires Recon Instruments

The Recon Jet is now a product under the ownership of U.S. chip maker Intel. The Vancouver, Canada-based maker of a both Winter and Summer smart eyewear was already a part of Intel Capital's portfolio. One of America's flagship chip makers, Intel made the investment in Recon in 2013.

The Oakley-like glass that does so much more than any Oakley glass has been a subject of ardent interest by Slowtwitchers since first written about in June of 2013.

The Recon Jet was formerly, exhaustively tested by Slowtwitch microelectronics editor Tony Vienneau in April, 2015.

As with a lot of groundbreaking microelectronic products the Jet's Kryptonite is battery life. Bike rides longer than 3 or 4 hours may strain the ability of the Jet to keep going. But the Jet can perform a lot of duties during that bike ride, and shows utility during the run as well.

The acquisition is a result of Intel's commitment to wearable tech and the miniaturization of its products, for us in wearable platforms.

Many Slowtwitchers pre-ordered their Jets starting back in late 2013, and the Jet continues to be of keen interest to multisporters. Power meter support is scheduled for this month, and Recon continues to improve the Jet at regular intervals.

LATE NOTE: As of now, one day after the publication of the article above, Recon announced support for power meters.
