Pioneer drops price

Today, Pioneer announced that owners of a Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 or Ultegra 6800 cranks can now purchase a dual-leg Pioneer power meter (SGY-MP9100C) factory installed for $999, making it one of the most affordable, and available, dual-leg power meters on the market. The Pioneer power meter was reviewed here (link below) and performed very well collecting some of the most advanced cycling metrics available.

Once Pioneer receives the shipped crankset from a dealer, Pioneer will install and calibrate the power meter at its service center and promises to have it en route to the consumer in less than 2 days.

Quarq immediately responded, with a drop of up to $200 off its own crank-based power meter. Certainly Powertap's recent intro of a chain ring- and pedal-based meter, and Pioneer's announcement of today, and that of Quarq, will help mainstream and make ubiquitous the use of power meters on competition bicycles.
