2013 Ironman Hawaii - day 2

Another day has gone by in Kona and here are images from our second day coverage of the 2013 GoPro Ironman World Championships. But with the parade of nations and the expo opening tonight there is more to come.

It was already busier at the pier today, but usually it gets most crowded on Wednesday and Thursday.

Andre Starykowicz got a swim in this morning and he was beaming with confidence.

Germany is well represented in Kona with 204 athletes and Sonja Tajsich is among them.

The free chocolate milk at the morning swim was very popular.

We bumped into Luke Bell in downtown Kona.

Zipp showed off the new Impress™ Technology in Kona that is a direct printing technology that saves weight and keeps all the dimples exposed.

Sebastian Kienle showed that technology on his bike in Europe.

We saw Luke McKenzie's new Scott Plasma 3 in front of Lava Java and figured the owner could not be far.

The fast Aussie enjoyed a waffle and egg breakfast and had already finished the bacon that came with that plate.

With Bevan Docherty the Specialized team has another challenger in the mix.

The Queen K was very overcast today, but athletes were out in droves.

Age grouper Alexandre Albuquerque from Montral is in Kona to support his wife but he is also training here for Ironman Cozumel.

We noticed that quite a few folks had opted to ride with road helmets.

This guy was quite low on his bike and we hope the guy behind him was not practicing to stay that close for Saturday.

The neon Rudy Project helmets are visible from a long distance.

Do not forget to hydrate, even if it does not feel so hot.

On Alii Drive meanwhile the running continued all day long.

And with traffic starting to backup for a couple miles on Alii Drive running was likely a more efficient way to get into town.

Flies are pesky in general in Kona but here they had a field day on this Pro athlete's leg.

Earlier in the morning not everyone as occupied with swimming at the pier.
