Scenes of IRONMAN Lake Placid

The 2021 edition of IRONMAN Lake Placid took place this past Sunday, with Swedes Lisa Norden and Rasmus Svenningsson taking victory over a stacked field. Here's just a few images from a weekend of fantastic racing.

But first, a video!

Defending Champ Matt Russell had some good smiles on the run course. He battled through for a 6th place finish.

Pamella Oliveira from Brazil was in the mix most of the day and would end up finishing 4th overall.

Top male swimmer Balazs Csoke would exit the water in first with a 46:44 swim time.

Dede Griesgrauer continues to impress us all and placed 5th in the pro field at the age of 50 years old.

A new floating timing raft was used during the swim. Through the entirety of the field, it only missed a couple of scans.

Eventual champion Rasmus Svenningson would post the fastest bike split of 4:26:09.

Lauren Brandon had the fastest female swim with a 47:30. She unfortunately would later deal with some stomach issues and finish 14th.

Heather Jackson clearly gave it all she had. Her husband and friend was caught holding her up before the podium presentation (she really was ok).

T1 before the race.

Yes, it was raining this hard :). (Editor's Note: not quite as hard as 2008, but harder than the thunderstorm of 2014.)

Lisa Norden celebrates her first Ironman victory, in her debut at the distance.

Joanna Ryter took 3rd overall with the fastest female run of the day of 2:57:31. Only 5 men ran faster than her.

Arnaud Guilloux enjoying a moment on the bike before he started the run.

Joe Skipper telling me how fast he was going to have to run to catch up. He would end up 3rd overall with the fastest marathon of the day: 2:49:04.
